Theirs was one of the great love stories of our time. Indeed, John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his wife, Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, captured and have held the world's imagination as perhaps no other husband and wife in modern history. Yet despite the billions of words that have been written about this most golden of couples, the true nature of their relationship has been veiled in mystery and mystique.
Until now. With stunning information from important sources, some of whom were sworn to secrecy until Jackie's death in May 1994, and previously sealed archival material, international best-selling author Christopher Andersen examines their unique partnership and the courage, grace and humor that defined it. In the manner of Joseph Lash's insightful Eleanor and Franklin, Jack and Jackie is packed with startling revelations about the secrets and events that shaped their lives, including:
  • Never - before - known details of their courtship, and the other men Jackie almost married
  • The world famous women whose romances with JFK have previously been unreported, including Audrey Hepburn
  • The shocking truth about Jack's medical condition, and how, as with FDR, the disturbing truth was concealed from the press and the public
  • Their concern about infertility, and Jackie's troubled pregnancies; the way Caroline and John Jr. transformed their lives - and the touching story of how the death of their infant son Patrick brought Jack and Jackie closer than they had every been, only months before Dallas

An inspiring, sympathetic and compelling look at two mythic figures, Jack and Jackie is more than just the definitive portrait of their marriage. It is a glittering fairy tale, a stirring saga of triumph and tragedy, and - above all else - a love story.

Christopher Andersen is the critically acclaimed author of sixteen books, which have been translated into more than twenty languages worldwide. A former contributing editor of Time and Senir editor of People, Andersen has also written hundreds of articles for a wide range of publications including Life magazine and The New York Times.

As Rose had said so many years ago, the Kennedys were like a nation unto themselves, with their own private language and customs. They invited friends into their lives, but there was always a distance between themselves and others.
- from The Kennedy Women
Now, for the first time, bestselling author, journalist, and social historian Laurence Leamer bridges that distance in what is unquestionably the most warmly empathetic and intimate study of the Kennedys to date.
Monumental in scope and extraordinary in sensitivity, The Kennedy Women chronicles five matrilineal generations in our nation's premier political dynasty. Not merely distinguished cultural history, it is a story of epic sweep, brimming with triumph and tragedy, courage and compliance, self - sacrifice and self - dillusion.
Moving from steerage on an immigrant vessel to the slums of Boston, from the Court of St. James to the White House and beyond, The Kennedy Women paints startling, in depth portraits of the mothers, wives, sisters and daughters who stood beside some of the most dynamic men of the twentieth century through occasions of great opulence and heartbreak, victory and scandal. Among its revelations:
  • How Rose's marriage almost ended on her wedding day
  • The poignantly detailed life stories of mentally challenged Rosemary and the glorious, lost Kathleen
  • Jackie's near death in the weeks before the inauguration
  • Eunice's struggle, despite chronic illness, to build the Special Olympics
  • A long-guarded account of Rose's response to Chappaquiddick
  • Jean Kennedy Smith's and the family's private reactions to the William Kennedy Smith rape charges
  • Jackie's gallant battle to live and die with dignity and privacy
  • The unique challenges and pressures confronting future Kennedy matriachs Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Maria Shriver Schwarzenegger, Kerry Kennedy Cuomo, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Rory Kennedy

Here, finally, is the women's story; even those who feel they know all there is to know about the Kennedys will discover how much more there is to the story. For five years, Laurence Leamer researched this book, receiving unprecedented cooperation from family members, interviewing scores of relatives and close associates, gaining access to hundreds of personal documents. Included are thirty-two pages of rare and fascinating family photographs.

The Kennedy Women combines exhaustive and superb scholarship with a gripping narrative that will alter forever our perception of America's royal family.

Laurence Leamer has authored seven other books, including the bestselling King of the Night: The life of Johnny Carson, As Time Goes By: The Life of Ingrid Bergman, and Make Believe: The Story of Nancy and Ronald Reagan. He has written for Harper's, Playboy, People, New York, The Washingtonian, and The New York Times Magazine, among others. He divides his time between Washington, D.C. and Palm Beach, Florida.

I’ve casually owned horses for the last twenty years and have just recently made it more than just a hobby. Some of my horses suffer from severe allergies, many of them aggravated by certain foods. I found myself spending a great deal of time each week blending them special food to eat that would be safe on their digestive systems. My horses really seemed to love the food and their health had never been better. Carol, a friend from my stables, suggested that I start selling the feed online to other horse owners who may suffer from similar circumstances. What a great idea! I purchased a website package with ecommerce solutions and I was off and running within about a month. People were able to find and special order my product online and before I knew it, I had more orders coming in than I could handle! I hired a local girl to help me make the blends and we’re now working 4 days a week creating the feed to ship across the country. My horses are happy and I get to spend all day doing something I’m passionate about – what could be better?

"I recognize my own shortcomings - the faults in the conduct of my private life. I realize that I alone am responsible for them, and I am the one who must confront them."

- Edward M. Kennedy

in a speech at

Harvard Unviersity,

October 25, 1991

In 1971 Richard Burke, a freshman at Georgetown University, volunteered his services to the offices of his political idol, Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachussetts. Through ability, hard work, and dedication, Burke rose in the next four years to become one of the Senator's closest staff members. In 1977 he was made Kennedy's personal assistant; after his appointment in 1978 as Administrative Assistant - the youngest in the Senate - he came to know Edward M. Kennedy perhaps more intimately than anyone outside the closed circle of the Senator's family. He was often the last to see Senator at night and the first to see him in the morning.
This book is the account of what Richard Burke witnessed and experienced during his decade at the Senator's right hand. It is neither a full biography nor an examination of Kennedy's long career in government. Rather, it is the history of a younf man who shared the Senator's professional and personal lives during a time marked by exhilarating public achievements and tragic secret misconduct. His story is not only the chronicle of a shattered idol, but of Richard Burke's own fall from grace, and eventually recovery. Burke does not shrink from confronting his own faults, and he agrees with the Senator: It is time for him to confront his.
Richard E. Burke has been involved in a variety of businesses and philantrophic organizations since leaving the staff of Senator Edward M. Kennedy in 1981. He lives in New York City.

Best selling author and presidential expert Ronald Kessler uncovers the real George W. Bush

Honesty, Integrity, Clarity of purpose. These are the qualities that Ronald Kessler, author of the New York Times best seller Inside the White House, discovered while investigating our current president who is so scrutinized - and so criticized - at home and around the world.

After digging deeply into the inner sanctum of the White House and George W. Bush's personal life, Kessler discovered that most of what people think they know about Bush simple isn't true. For instance, that he's not very smart. That he can't focus on complex issues. That he has repeatedly and intentionally lied to the public. That he's narrow - minded about his Christian faith and his conservative beliefs. That he lets other people make the big decisions for him. All myths - driven mainly by biased reporting in the media.

Kessler has been granted extraordinary access to the administration and its key players, including Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, Andrew Card, Karl Rove, Condoleezza Rice, and many others. He discovers how Bush acts when the television cameras leave; honest to a fault, open to new ideas, grounded with common people, and powerful without pretense. He reveals how America's first M.B.A. president negotiates challenges such as terrorism, the economy, and education reform.

In addition to senior officials, Kessler also interviewed dozens of Secret Service agents, former Presidential aides, and career White House employees - on deep background - who know the George W. Bush that the public never sees, and know how he really compares with his predecessors. And some of Bush's closest friends reveal how down-to-earth he has remained since his middle -class boyhood in West Texas.

The pressures of the White House always expose the true character of any president. In this election year, as Americans reevaluate the qualifications and policies of George W. Bush, they will conclude that the most important consideration is character. And if all you know of Bush is what you've heard from the media, prepare to be surprised.

Ronald Kessler is the New York Times best selling author of fourteen nonfiction books, including The C.I.A. at war, The Bureau, Inside the White House, and The Sins of the Father. A former Wall Street Journal and Washington Post investigate reporter, Kessler has won sixteen journalism awards, including two George Polk awards. He lives in Potomac, Maryland, with his wife, Pamela.

In 1998, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the most admired woman in America while also becoming the most visibly wronged wife in the world. Standing by her husband, President Bill Clinton, as she and the nation learned the truth behind the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the First Lady was both a dutiful spouse and a passionate defense attorney, two roles she had played on numerous occasions during the course of this tumultuous yet politically unified relationship.

Now esteemed biographer and journalist Joyce Milton examines this formidable, fascinating woman, giving probing insight into the First Lady's character, her values and her career. In The First Partner, Milton goes behind the scenes at the Clinton White House and explores the First Lady's involvement in Travelgate, Filegate, the Health Care Task Force fiasco and fundraising for the 1996 presidential campaign, showing how these controversies grew out of the tensions in her political partnership with Bill Clinton. Milton also describes how Mrs. Clinton's defensive reactions to her husband's chronic infidelities have often misfired and have sometimes enabled his bad behavior. She examines the differing psychologies of the Presideng and First Lady, yet shows that when faced with political accusations, they take a similar approach of telling only as much of the truth as is necessary - a reaction that has increasingly gotten them into trouble.

Milton also investigates Hillary Rodman's Midwestern childhood and Methodist upbringing, when she developed her strong belief that social and political activism can be an expression of religious faith. This authoritative book follows the future First Lady through her years as a student activist at Wellesley and as a children's rights advocate at Yale Law School, where she met her future husband, Bill Clinton. It takes a close look at Mrs. Clinton's first Washington experience, as a legal staffer for the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate investigation; shows how she juggled her positions as an activist, a corporate attorney and the first lady of the state of Arkansas; and probes her handling of the Whitewater investments that eventually led to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's investigation of the President.

Milton also examines Mrs. Clinton's attempts to reconcile a host of contradictions - feminist convictions in painful collision with family commitment; philosophical beliefs in conflict with harsh political reality; and the precarious balance of professional ambition, public image and private life.

Meticulously reported and researched. The First Partner offers keen new understanding of this complex woman who has infuriated and confounded as many people as she has inspired.

Joyce Milton is the author of Tramp: The Life of Charlie Chaplin, Loss of Eden: A Biography of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh and The Yellow Kids and is coauthor of The Rosenberg File: A Search for the Truth with Ronald Radosh. She lieves in Brooklyn.

It is amazing that this book is nearly 15 years old, and further that Bill Gates was spot on with the current technology that we see today. It is a good read to see both the vision of this truly amazing entrepreneur, as well as to get an idea of how to think about technology enabling daily life. Listen to what Bill gates says about the future of technology in your life - the past would indicate he knows what he's talking about.

  • What is the information highway?
  • How will the new technology change our lives?
  • Do I have to learn how to use the computer?
  • Will my job become obsolete?

Welcome to The Road Ahead. We have all been bombarded by the seemingly endless hype about the information highway and the coming age of technology. Now, Bill Gates - who built Microsoft into one of the most successful companies in the world - gives us his vision of what the future holds for us. The Road Ahead is his bird's - eye view of the undiscovered territory on the information high way - an authoritative, thought provoking, and very readable travel guide for the journey.

In this optimistic and refreshingly realistic book, Gates looks ahead to show how the emerging technologies of the digital age will transform all our lives. As he says, we are on the brink of a new revolution, and crossing a technology threshold that will forever change the way we buy, work, learn and communicate with each other. In The Road Ahead, Gates take us back to when he chose to drop out of Harvard to start his own software company in order to participate in the rise of the personal computer he foresaw. Just as the personal computer revolutionized the way we work, the tools of the information age - which are, even now, becoming everyday reality - will transform the way we make choices about almost everything.
